Thursday Update #37: I'm Back

Hey everyone! We have a lot to cover so let's jump into it.

Firstly, it's been awhile since I wrote an update, sorry about that. Long story short, I wasn't really making progress with Blackwarden so I didn't want to write an update because I had nothing to update. Then the failures started piling up and I started to run out of ideas of how to fix my problem, that problem being basic control of the player character. Then, I found a solution, but wasn't smart enough to understand it. So I took a break from it, and before I knew it days turned to weeks turned to months. I'm not proud of it, but that is what happened.

I'm now happy to say that I'm back at it, and I've made some decent progress. I have learned rays a bit, and why I was having trouble before. My jump detection is completely different than before, and works actually! I discovered a problem with downward slopes. The player bounces on the slope and due to, what I've read on forums, is a physics bug in Unity there is no easy fix. So I decided to scrap them. I have, I think, a script that I can drop onto any enemy that will control their attacks tested on the bandit enemy and works! The latest thing I've been working on is setting up the spritesheet for the player character so I can do hitbox detections, and oh boy is it a ton of stuff just to get the sheet made. I'll save the explanation for another update, but that's where I'm at. Not too bad, I don't think.

What have I been doing in the mean time, you may be wondering. Well, I put a good amount of energy toward my Twitch streaming, which I am now a Twitch affiliate. Not terribly hard to get I hear, but it is a thing. Tried out some video editing in making YouTube videos and some shorts that had mixed success. Started an incredibly ambitious rulebook project for my Pathfinder 2e game.

Lastly, and most recently, opened an Etsy shop selling some print-on-demand merchandise and designs. I have a whole TWO listings right now, a coffee cat shirt and a cthulhu head mug, but plan to expand that out over the coming weeks. I also intend to sell painted miniatures and take on commissions painting, because why not.

To wrap up, this means that Blackwarden will take a bit of a backseat until I have the shop setup enough where I feel confident with leaving it alone. Getting that finished and potentially generating some income is most important at the moment. After that, I'll be diving into Blackwarden full force once again. Sorry to everyone for the long hiatus, I'll try to make it up to you all in the future. I'll put some links to my mentioned endeavors below, but otherwise, I'll see you some (probably next) Thursday!
